It was just a year ago when I left my job at the office and started affiliate marketing instead. During this year I have become financially independent and stable, and it is obvious that one can make money in the Internet, and, that it is worth doing it. Besides, now I know that not only born programmers can do it, but basically anyone, even if one, like me, has got BA in English Literature. Still, I have learned also a lot of things which should and should not be done to be successful. So, here are some tips for free which I would have been glad to get a year ago.

First, the most important step – choosing the products to promote. Actually it is not important what you sell, though it is easier to promote products about which you know at least something. But, I have been selling also some software tools with pretty good success even if I am hardly able to use those myself. To sell lipsticks might have been easier, but there are two reasons why software is a better choice. First, commissions on software tools are higher, secondly – transactions take place faster if no material objects are involved.

Second, when you have figured out what you are going to sell, you must choose the right product. Usually if there is no competition, there is very slim chance of making money. If the competition is high, usually it means that one can earn quite a lot selling the product, but, only if one is able to beat the competition and rank 1st on Google and other search tools. This will not be easy until you are experienced enough, so I would advise to choose product with moderate competition. To find the right product and the best keyword for it (because these are the keywords, not the products which compete) you will have to use some reliable keyword research tools which can provide analysis of the relevant keywords related to the products you have selected, indicating the competition of each keyword, available domain names, approximate profitability of your keyword and how many searches per day are made using the keyword you have selected. I have tested some free software tools, like the one provided by Google adwords, but now I am using Market Samurai, which is more user friendly (it has video tutorials), provides wider data and works faster. There are also other similar product, but what I like about Market Samurai is, that once you buy, there are no additional costs involved, all updates are free of charge. This is important, as Google constantly changes its algorithms, and any keyword research tool must adapt quickly to those. Market Samurai is not very expensive, but now you can even get Market Samurai discount.

Third, the most important step is to provide correct organization of your page. There are a lot of tiny nuances which make Google prefer one fresh made page above the other, and it is worth finding out those. You must have heard that the density of your keyword should be ~4%, but also you must remember that your keyword mas be placed not only in the main title of your page, meta title, subtitles, in your first and last sentences of the page, but also it should appear in names of your images and alt tags. I would advise to study some of your competitor pages ranking highly, to understand how their pages are organized. You my also use the same Market Samurai to do the job, as one of its in-built features is SEO analysis.
The most important thing I have learned is that even if some attempts are unsuccessful, if one works hard and is ready to learn, the miracle will happen, you will rank first, and money will start running in in your account.
