OK, so you splurged and bought yourself a cool new lock that doesn’t need a key so you can finally open your door without fumbling for your keys.

Will you do me a favor and take a quick look at it for me? Look at the handle on the lock and tell me if you see a keyhole. Is there one? I thought so, you see these keyless locks need a backup way of unlocking the lock if something happens to the keypad so they thoughtfully provide a regular key just in case.

The only problem with this is that anybody can open your lock and make off with all of your stuff because unknown to most people anybody with a pulse and an Internet connection can learn how to make a special key called a ‘bump’ key and use it to pop open your door lock in under 10 seconds.

There are many videos that will show you how to do this and some feature children as young as 10 ‘bumping’ a front door open.

It has been estimated that over 95% of the homes in America today have locks that can be bumped and as far as I can tell lock bumping is on the rise so if you have already bought your locks please be aware that your locks can still be compromised.
