If you do not know it yet, the right footwear will go a long way in making sure that you do not injure yourself when you are out dancing. Typical ballroom shoes have suede covered heels, steel shanks, heel support and extra cushioning for the feet. Aside from these extra features, what are some of the things I need to know about when buying dance shoes? Here are a few tips to help you buy your best pair today.
Why is it important to have the right size? A pair that is too loose can fall off your feet, while shoes that are too snug can literally cramp your style. Of course there are straps that will secure your feet when you dance but don’t take the chance and just buy shoes that are in your size. Your toes must have comfortable wiggle room if the style you buy is an enclosed one. Some dancers prefer that their toes can touch the rim of the shoes and the tiniest bit of dance floor. I don’t know if this will help you but if it does, then go and buy one like it.
Because they are specially engineered for a specific purpose, dance shoes will be understandably more expensive than a regular pair of shoes. An average pair of ballroom dance shoes can go for about $150 in specialty stores. If you are on a budget, you can shop for discount shoes. These do not necessarily mean that they are of inferior quality—you just need to be a wise shopper and be more prudent in your choices. A good price for these shoes is about $50-$80 a pair.
Be sure to take care of your ballroom dancing shoes by storing them properly and using them exclusively for dance purposes. They are a great investment that will help you give a fantastic performance whenever you wear them. Have fun!
