I had a few Barbie’s that I played with as a child, but I was never really that into her and her friends. They were fun on occasion, but I didn’t get into them like some of my other friends. This was probably because I was a tomboy, and was more interested in playing outside, building forts, and riding my bike. I was really surprised that my daughter, who shows many of the same interests that I had when I was young, asked me if she could get a Barbie costume.

For some, the original Batman series is unparalleled for its colorful and clever and cutting-edge elements, its first-time ever used comic book “sounds” (Bam! Zonk! Kapow!), its serialized nature (playing on the old radio shows, etc.), its stellar star lineup.  My brother was riveted to the TV in those first years, watching The great Julie Newmar and Eartha Kitt as Catwomen, Egghead, Mr. Freeze, and the Penguin try to out-wit the witty, out-do the duo.  I watched less faithfully, but always, always stayed in the room for the bookworm and the Riddler, my absolute favorites.  (I was intrigued by the contraptions the Bookworm, Roddy McDowall, had for reading—despite how he also made time for crime; I was fascinated by Frank Gorshin’s hideous hyena giggling, his derisive and mocking laughter, his adept activities, his green bodysuit with the question marks, and, of course, his clever yet felonious riddles.)

Just like a real girl, Barbie must decide what to wear for different situations. It’s all the fun of getting ready to go out that girls enjoy and the Barbie dress up games make experimentation with different looks, really easy. Singer and actress Hilary Duff has designed some of the outfits. There are different sections under female halloween costumes , such as Barbie Party Girl where the player is invited to choose a prom dress, ball gown or cocktail dress for the occasion. There is also a Dress Up Beautiful Bride section, a costume party dress and a Barbie in Gowns category. Other styles include flower girl dresses and a Barbie Dance section.

If she still has a strong interest in her Barbie costume by Christmas time this year, I think I will see if I can find her a few more. I am certainly willing to buy her the things she is interested in having so that toys are not going unused. We’ve had enough of that in the past.
