Batman and Robin call up numerous associations—different ones for different people of different ages, genders, and mindsets. Batman and Robin, that is, didn’t always inspire such sardonic satire as that of Saturday Night Live’s “Notoriously Gay Duo” animation or such innocent hero worship as the Batman or Robin costume and mask that little kids still wear for Halloween…forty years after the original dynamic duo did their stunts on TV every night right before dinner.

Cowboys, cowgirls and Native American costumes are the best classic male halloween costumes. All of these costumes work well in felt. Fringes attached to cowboy and girl vests and a simple skirt or pair of chaps, both fringed, are a hit. Adorn these costumes with dime store silver stars and, don’t forget the bandanna and hat! Beads on felt tunics and leggings make a handsome Native American costume, along with a long, black wig, which can flow loosely, kept in place with a beaded band you purchase, or make with that handy glue gun.

I actually spotted a captain america costume which has been the most popular male halloween costumes,a few years back when I was squeezing through the Halloween crowd on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. To my surprise it was on a sorority girl, not a guy. It was probably the greatest captain america costume I had ever seen. She wore it well my friends. And so can you if you find the right place to shop for your truly unique captain america costume.

I on the other hand must go out into the dark and scary night as something much more menacing. Or at least menacing looking. I always like to offer the trick-or-treators a spooky experience when they come a knocking on my door. That’s the way it should be done on Halloween. This night of October 31st should be utterly filled with terrifying costumes and massive loads of candy.
